I was privileged to be asked to help captain the Boys 12&U Leicestershire County team at the recent County Cup event held at the Nottingham Tennis Centre.
All of the boys who were selected were a real credit to the county and created a real team spirit. Cheering one another on from the side of the court and encouraging each other during difficult moments of the matches.
During the course of the weekend Leicestershire beat Northamptonshire in the first match, which was then followed by another win against Shropshire. Coming top of the group put us into the final against Nottinghamshire on the following day.
After lots of discussions about team selection and doubles pairings the team was chosen. Obviously there was some disappointment as not every junior could play in the final match, however, the decision making process was explained and the fact that all of the boys had contributed over the course of the weekend meant that it was a genuine team effort.
The final score against Nottinghamshire was 5-1 with a thrilling doubles match to finish with that went all the way to a match tie-break.
A fantastic weekend, with some brilliant performances from the boys, and a medal to go with it all! Well done everyone!
